General Council

Composition
1 — The General Council consists of twenty-one members as follows: a) eleven representatives of IPT’s teaching staff and researchers; b) three representatives of IPT’s students; c) one representative of IPT’s non-teaching staff; d) six prominent community stakeholders with knowledge and experience relevant to IPT activities.
2 — The members referred to in paragraph 1(a) are elected by all IPT lecturers and researchers, using a system of proportional representation.
3 — The members referred to in paragraph 1(b) are elected by all IPT students using a system of proportional representation.
4 — The member referred to in paragraph 1(c) is elected by all members of the non-teaching staff of the IPT.
5 – The members referred to in paragraph 1(d) shall be co-opted by the members referred to in paragraph 1(a) and (b) by an absolute majority, on the basis of reasoned proposals endorsed by at least one third of those members.
6 — When selecting the members referred to in paragraph 1(d), the following factors shall be taken into account: a) Involvement in the local community in which the IPT is based; b) Links to professional and business activities corresponding to the IPT’s specific remit or to particular areas of specialisation.
7 — The elections and co-optations referred to in paragraphs 2 to 5 shall be conducted in accordance with these statutes and Appendix IV to the statutes (Regulations on the Election and Appointment of Members of the IPT General Council), which forms an integral part thereof.
8— The term of office for elected or nominated members is four years, except for students who have a two-year term of office, and may only be dismissed by the General Council by absolute majority of their votes and only in case of serious misconduct, as stated in the General Council regulations.
9— In the event of the early termination of a board member’s term of office, where the member concerned is one of those referred to in paragraphs 1(a) to (c), they shall be replaced by the next member on the list from which they were elected; in the case of one of the members referred to in paragraph 1(d), the replacement shall be effected through a new appointment process in accordance with the rules set out in paragraphs 5 to 7 of this Article.
10 — The members of the General Council do not represent any groups or sectoral interests and are independent in the performance of their duties.
