Objectives
Develop skills in the field of energy generation through renewable sources, namely: mini-hydro, photovoltaic and wind power systems.
Acquire knowledge about energy storage systems, with a view to their optimized application.
Program
1- Fundamentals of economic evaluation: indicators RSI, VAL, IRR. PRE tariffs
2- Mini-hydro energy: classifications, flow duration curve, mechanoelectric equipment (turbines and
generators).
2.1- Simplified and detailed energy calculation. Cost estimation.
3-Solar energy: General concepts. Fundamentals of photovoltaic energy conversion; type of photovoltaic cells and manufacturing techniques.
3.1- PV Cells and Modules: operating characteristics, assembly aspects of PV cells in a
PV module. Operating equations. Sizing of PV systems.
3.2- Solar thermal plants for electricity production: operating principles and composition of the different technologies of solar thermal plants.
4- Wind energy: conversion limits; performance of a wind turbine (power curve); concepts of
power regulation; types of wind energy conversion systems and their characteristics.
4.1- Topology of the electrical networks of wind farms, dimensioning and control of power production
active and reactive.
5- Electric energy storage systems: Technologies (accumulator batteries, supercapacitors, flywheels, pumping
), operation and applications. Sizing of storage systems.
Evaluation Methodology
Written test: Theoretical (40%) and Practical (60%).
The minimum grade for approval to the UC is 47,5%.
