Objectives
          By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
1) Understand tourism phenomena within the analytical context of the anthropology of tourism; 2) Analyze the main anthropological theories applied to experiential tourism; 3) Identify tourism as a modern ritual and social practice; 4) Acquire skills and competencies in the field of the anthropology of tourism in relation to cultural diversity through an understanding of the impact of tourism on identity construction in contexts of cultural and creative diversity. Also, 5) Perceive the diasporas of interpretation, through the perception of tourism narratives (geographical and symbolic boundaries), and their reappropriation by diasporic communities and, finally, 6) Apply anthropological methods to the context(s) of experiential tourism.
Program
          1. Anthropological perspectives for critical analysis of the cultural dimension of the tourism phenomenon
2. Dialectical relationship: cultural and tourist practices and experiences. Cultural and Creative Diversity. Case presentations
3. The role of anthropology in observing the phenomenon of experiential tourism (tourists and residents)
4. Anthropology, Performances and diasporas of interpretation (performative events and cultural performances: religious ceremonies, festivals, customs, parties, celebrations, in the context of geographical and symbolic boundaries)
5. Social agency, modern ritual and social practice: tourist narratives and social construction
6. Anthropological essay applied to experiential tourism. Case studies
Evaluation Methodology
          a) Practical classes: critical reviews = 10% (based on topics presented by invited experts in the contexts of anthropology and experiential tourism).
b) Practical thematic work = 90%
