Objectives
This Curricular Unit is organized into 4 modules, which coincide with the programme contents, that aim to achieve the following objectives:
O1- Understand: How cultural and ideological perspectives shape identities and heritage.
O2- Recognize: Key aspects and international frameworks of the debate on heritage.
O3- Analyze: The new meanings of heritage and their socio-cultural and institutional implications.
O4- Identify: The emergence of new heritages.
O5- Investigate: The influence of heritage discourses on the transformation of cultural spaces.
O6-Understand: How heritage shapes notions of the future and the impact of current debates on post-World War II UN values.

C1- Critical Heritage Studies: Global Perspectives and Contemporary Debates
1.1. Critical Theories and Methodologies;
1.2. Heritage, Politics, and Ideology;
1.3. New Heritages and emerging Perspectives, including the ecocultural dimension.
C2- Heritage Discourses and Cultural Transformation
2.1. Critical discourse analysis applied to heritage discourses
2.2. Contested heritages, ethical considerations and future directions
2.3 Heritage as a resource to reinforce or challenge power structures
C3- Museums
3.1. The role of museums in presenting uncomfortable heritage;
3.2 Digital heritage and its impact on the museum experience
C4- Heritage in the future and UN values;
4.1 Current debates on heritage and their relation with post-World War II UN values (human rights, peace, tolerance, among others);
4.2. The global challenges facing heritage;
4.3 The notion of sustainable heritage and its relevance for future generations.
Evaluation Methodology
1) Writing a critical essay which, depending on the quality obtained, may be transformed into a scientific article and submitted for publication in academic journals specialising in the topic covered.(60%)
2) Individual oral presentation which, after being critically analysed in class, will be improved to be presented at a conference dedicated to the topic analysed. (40%)
