Prerequisites
Objectives
On completion of the module, the students should be able to program 8 bit PIC microcontrollers of the 18F family, accomplishing projects that involve: digital and analog reading, digital and PWM actuation, and rigid temporal constraints.
Program
1) Introduction to embedded systems;
2) Data representations and computer arithmetic
3) Introduction to the PIC microcontroller and development environments
4) Programming/configuration PIC 18F family: (a) Digital input/output; (b) Timers and internal interrupt; (c) External interrupts; (d) LCD connection; (e) COMPARE, CAPTURE, PWM; (f) Counters;
5) Projects
Evaluation Methodology
This course is part of the old curriculum plan (Order nº 10766/2011 - 08/30/2011), and is taught in the academic year 2023/2024 under a Tutoring regime.
The assessment consists of one of the following alternatives (to be chosen by the student):
1- Carrying out practical-lab mini-tests + a Project (total of 40%) and written test carried out during one of the exam periods (60%).
2- Taking a written test during one of the exam periods (60%) + a laboratory component (programming) carried out immediately after this test (40%).
Passing the course requires a minimum grade of 10 out of 20.
