The master's programme in Conservation and Restoration, combined with a bachelor's degree in the same field, offers the education needed to enter the profession of conservator-restorer in accordance with the current international standards and recommendations. IPT is the institution that has been offering training in Conservation and Restoration in Portugal and access to the profession of conservator-restorer for the longest time (since 1989).
Multidisciplinary in nature, the course takes place in constant contact with real situations in the laboratory and in situ, and the training is based on disciplines specifically of Conservation and Restoration, disciplines of Exact and Natural Sciences and disciplines of Arts and Humanities. Equally important is the combination of theory and practice that exists on the course, which allows the study of works from a technical and material point of view and from a historical-artistic point of view, and on this basis decide in a sustained manner what to do with the works that need intervention and how to do it, and finally carry out the treatment.
