Prerequisites
Intermediate knowledge of the English language.

Objectives
By the end of the semester, students should be able to:

- Use technical vocabulary in the fields of Tourism Principles, Hotel Management, Business English, as well as Food and Beverages;
- Produce sentences of intermediate complexity;
- retrieve as much information as possible from a monolingual Advanced Learner's Dictionary; and
- Write small professional texts, such as: emails, formal letter

Program
- Main tourism concepts and definitions (tourism, tourist, visitor, excursionist, travel, journey, voyage, tour, trip, amongst others);
- Types of lodging;
- Asking for directions;
- Airport English;
- Dictionary work;
- formal correspondence (formal, letters and emails);
- the numbers;
- Basic notions of Business English;
- Food and Beverages;
- Intermediate grammar structures.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous Assessment guidelines:

SPEAKING AND READING: 25%
CLASS PRESENTATION: 25%
Two evaluation written tests: 50%

Students must obtain a minimum of 8 points in each of the written tests for average purposes. An average of 9,5 is required to skip the final exam.

Exam for those who failed or didn't attend the test. The exam is made up of a written component (50%) and of an oral componenent (50%). Those who fail to achieve 8,5 points in the written component will not be deemed eligible for taking the oral component.

Teaching Method
Practical and theoretical classes a considerable component of written and oral exercises. Several digital tools will be used as learning enhancers.
