6 ECTS; 3º Ano, 1º Semestre, 45,0 PL + 30,0 TP + 5,0 OT , Cód. 964556.

Lecturer
- Marta Sicurella (1)(2)
- Alexandre José de Magalhães Figueiredo (2)

(1) Docente Responsável
(2) Docente que lecciona

Prerequisites
NA

Objectives
a) Know the photographic processes that use bromide or silver chloride emulsion, in black and white, and emulsion for infrared capture.
b) Know the processes of production of an emulsion, both at an industrial level and at a small scale, in a photographic laboratory, in a handcrafted manner.
c) Know how to produce, apply and test a handmade photographic emulsion.
d) To carry out a final project, with a free theme, where the student applies one of the techniques learnt and establishes conceptual relations between the proposed theme and its final support.

Program
1) Study of the theories of latent image and development, to
understand how the choice of chemicals, the different production technologies and the variation of parameters can influence the characteristics of photographic emulsions.
2) Experience with infrared sensitive photographic film, with industrial photographic emulsion, and with washed emulsion, manufactured entirely by the students, in a practical class context.
3) Printing practice on various supports (wood, textiles, paper, glass, etc.), with washed emulsion, produced in the context of a practical lesson, and with commercial emulsion.
4) Preparation and test of washed emulsion; production of a negative on glass, for capture in a large format camera, and positivation on photographic paper.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment consists of the weighted average of:
Theoretical component: 1 written assessment test-25%.
Practical component: 3 practical exercises-30%, Final project-40%.
Presence,Participation,Attendance-5%.
Examination is not compulsory for those with a classification of, at least, 9.5/20/20 points, and no item of assessment with a classification lower than 8/20 points. Examination is not allowed for those with a classification lower than 8/20 in the practical component.
In examination periods, the written test may be taken and the final project delivered, and the final mark will be calculated in the same way as in attendance, unless the examination marks are used.
