Objectives
The student at the end of the semester should be able to understand and contextualize photographic printing techniques and their main characteristics;
Understand the applications and potentialities of the execution of different printing processes;
Know how to analyze the constituents of materials and reagents of photosensitive solutions;
Understand and Interpret variables adjacent to photographic printing processes: density, contrast, saturation, detail reproduction and veil;
To know the particularities of the chemistry involved in the oxidation-reduction reactions of the elements present in the photographic printing processes addressed.
Analyze and criticize the results in the presence of the teacher and colleagues, for the development of autonomy and critical sense.
Autonomously execute a creative project using one or more printing techniques.
Program
To achieve the rigor necessary to experiment printing techniques, this course proposes teaching about the nature of materials and the methodology of each photographic experimental process.
1) Digital production of large format arrays.
2) Digital matrix calibration methodology for linear sensitometric response imaging.
2) Analysis and testing of optimum media characteristics (paper, glass, acetate, etc.)
3) Analysis and comparison of pigments and their origins, extraction forms, stability, characteristics and incompatibilities.
4) Research on the most inking plant species to perform an antotypy print quality.
5) Tests and combinations of different concentrations of sensitizing solutions in order to obtain higher contrast, detail and density.
6) Techniques and strategies to promote the longevity of the images produced.
7) Archive and packaging concepts, good practices.
Evaluation Methodology
The assessment is continuous and consists of: Participation and attendance-5% 4 practical exercises-25% 1 written test-20% 1 research work-15% Final project-35%
Practical sheets and reports have to be delivered within 1 week after their completion, at the risk of being penalized by 1 value for each day of delay. To approve the student, at the end of the Normal Season, he must have delivered the 4 practical exercises (with a minimum classification of 8/20 values in each one), have done the written test, the research work and the final project. Obtaining a classification lower than 8/20 values in any practical exercise or failure to deliver them means failure / exclusion from the exam and subsequent evaluation periods. Therefore, to approve, you must obtain a minimum rating of 9.5 / 20 values in the weighted average of the elements described above.
Examination period: The only elements of evaluation to be improved are, evaluation test and final project. The student proposed for the exam must: a) take an oral exam; b) to improve the final project, c) to combine the previous ones. After the improvement, the student must pass a minimum classification of 9.5 / 20 in the weighted average of the 5 assessment elements proposed above.
Season Appeal / Special / Finalist: The same strategy applies as the exam season.
