Objectives
The students should acquire visual culture that will allow them to identify and discriminate between the different creative languages across history and understand the use of image across time as a vehicle of power, spirituality, memory and how its codes accumulated and subsist to the present day.
Program
Prehistory: art at the service of temporal and spiritual power.
Antiquity: the codification of reality, Art in empire building and cosmogonies.
Middle Ages: the kingdom of heaven in the kingdoms of men, the power of symbols.
Renaissance: Christianity and Paganism.
Evaluation Methodology
Attendance and constructive participation in class (20%) + attendance (80%).
Final exam (100%). Evaluation of questions about the given subject and that require answers of interpretation and problematization.
