Objectives
Students should understand the evolution of culture and aesthetics in Portugal, grasp the context in which artistic phenomena emerged and be able to gather, treat and communicate scientific information from a historical and artistic point of view.
Program
I - The Upper Middle Ages: 1. The political and cultural context 2. Mindset and culture 3. Contextualisation of the new art forms.
II - The Lower Middle Ages: 1.The evolution of culture and mentality in the Iberian Peninsula. The monastic reforms 2. The Romanesque 3. The first gothic forms
III - The Renaissance 1. Imperial mindset and culture in Portugal. The art forms.
Evaluation Methodology
One research project work on an under-explored topic, presentation and oral defense. Oral assessment of course content.
