Objectives
Students should be able to understand the differences of values in human societies and their consequences for the management of organizations and organizational behavior in different cultures.
Program
1. Understand the trends of our time and its impact on management:
- Trends towards globalization and globalization trends.
- Accelerated internationalization.
- The chain of causes and effects.
2. Identify the main origins and problems of intercultural encounters.
3. Know the concept of culture as a collective mental software.
4. Know describe cultural differences through 5D model.
5. To analyze the consequences and practical implications of the different collective mental programs in terms of:
- Models and patterns of communication and feedback dominant in international cultures.
- Most common Attitudes towards conflicts and rules.
- Misunderstandings and intercultural conflicts.
- Implicit models of organization and their influence on processes and forms of communication in a professional context.
- Relationship with time and punctuality.
- Relationship with the authority and rules.
- Relationship with the unknown and ambiguity.
- Concern about the competition or cooperation.
- Importance of "I" vs. "us".
- Effective leadership type.
6. cultural complexity:
- Interaction of cultural dimensions in the daily activity of international staff and managers and organizations.
7. Management of cultural differences:
- Approaches, models, theories and consequences.
8. The intrapersonal and international management career.
9. Case Study Presentation in multinational organizations on the Multicultural Management.
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment: preparation and defense of a working group and a frequency. Exam are exempt students whose rank is equal to or higher than 10, both in frequency and in group work.
Final assessment: Exam.
