Objectives
Understand and caracterize Western Art as part of the cultural development in the Western society focusing on the evolution of the aesthetic concept across the centuries.
Students should be able to collect and process scientific data from historical and artistic areas.
Program
I - Introduction to History and Art Theory
I -The Classic Antiquity: mitology and art
II - The Middle Ages:a word dominated by symbols.
III - The Modern Age.The Renaissance as a new theory of Western art.
IV - Portuguese mindset and culture in the beginning of the Modern Age
V - The development of the art in the 19th-century Portuguese empire.
Evaluation Methodology
One research project work on an under-explored topic, presentation and oral defense. Oral assessment of course content.
