Lecturer

(1) Docente Responsável
(2) Docente que lecciona

Prerequisites
Background knowledge of physics, algebra and mathematical analysis.

Objectives
Provide the physical principles of fluid mechanics. Develop competences to carry out calculations with Newton's law, basic law of hydrostatics, law of continuous flow, equation of Bernoulli, continuous loss of energy, and power of pumps and turbines.

Program
1 – Physical properties of fluids.
2 – Basic law of hydrostatics and its application to several systems.
3 – Interpretation and application of the law of continuous flow.
4 – General flow equations, Navier-Stokes equations and Bernoulli equation and its applications.
5 – Concepts of flow energy and power. Loss of energy.Pumps and Turbines.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment: three written mini-tests. Pass mark is the average of the three with a minimum mark of 9/20.
Final assessment: Written examinations
