Prerequisites
Prerequisites: have attended the module Materials I;
Co-requisites: not applicable.
Objectives
The students should be able to identify the manufacturing processes and ceramic materials, glass, glazes, metals and alloys; the key degradation mechanisms, and the main types of changeability and resulting products.
Program
1. Classic ceramic materials; 1.1. Raw materials; 1.2. Manufacturing; 1.3. Types and classification; 1.4. Characteristics of the major products; 1.6. Major defects; 2. Glassy materials; 2.1. Glass and glazing; 2.2 The process of glazing; 2.3. Changeability and deterioration; 3. Metallic materials and alloys; 3.1. Metallurgy; 3.2. Types of metals and alloys; 3.3. Corrosion.
Evaluation Methodology
Theoretical component (67%) assessed through a closed-book written exam. Theoretical-practical component (33%) assessed through a monograph based on literature review (minimum mark: 5/20).
