When you arrive

 

Registration:

Are you coming for a mobility programme?

Then you should go to the International Relations Office where you will receive all the information you need about registration, accomodations in our residence halls, student card, timetables, access to meals in our canteen, internet, library.

Are you coming for a full course?

You should go to our Student Point of Contact (building A) to complete your registration.

 

Get your Resident Permit:

If you are an International Student aiming to attend a full course in our Institute, you should get your Resident Permit within 90 days of arriving in Portugal.

The application must be made by appointment or through an electronic platform on SEF website www.sef.pt.

 

Necessary documents:

. Temporary resident permit form (available in SEF website);

. 2 passport type photos;

. Study VISA;

. Copy of your passport;

. Proof of means of subsistence,

. Proof of address in Portugal;

. Request for search of criminal record by SEF;

. Proof of registration in the IPT;

. Proof of tuition fee payment required by IPT;

. Health insurance policy statement or the PB4 document (for Brazilian citizens)

 

Get your VAT number:

If you want to open a bank account in Portugal you will need to first get your VAT number (a fiscal number, NIF in Portugal). It serves to identify a body or a person when requested by the taxation authorities.

The NIF is acquired for free and generated immediatly at the time of the request.

For that you must go to the tax office (Repartição de Finanças) in the city centre.

 

Necessary documents:

                        . Passport;

. Proof of your residence in Portugal (if you are living in our student residence you can ask for a declaration from SAS);

Open a Bank Account:

To open a bank account at any bank of your choice you need the following documents:

                        . Passport;

                        . NIF (VAT number);

                        . Proof of residence;

                        . Proof of registration in our Institute;

                        . Proof of subsistence during your stay.

 

Register at a Health Centre:

In order to access National Health Services (SNS) you must register at your local Health Centre.

 

Necessary documents:

. Resident VISA;

. Identification document;

. Proof of residence

 

If you don’t have a resident VISA and you are from a non-European country with which the Portuguese government has a health and social agreement on health and social security, you should also present the certified statement issued in your home countries which allows you to access medical care in Portugal (for instance, PB4 in the case of Brazilian citizens).

If you are from a EU country, the European Economic Area or from Switzerland, you must present your European Health Insurance Card.

If not you must present proof of your private health insurance.

The legal taxes in force will be aplied according to each situation.
