Objectives
The CIS Centro de Informática e Sistemas (IT and Systems Center) aims to guarantee the functioning and development of the IT infrastructure of the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (Instituto Politécnico de Tomar) and its respective organic units, for the achievement of which activities and actions that are deemed appropriate must be developed, complying in particular with:
- In the Systems Administration's area CIS is responsible for ensuring the high availability of applications installed at the IPT, as well as the constant monitoring and maintenance of the central systems and equipment installed at the IPT DataCenter. (Support for application server management, Web services and hosting, Email services, Virtualization infrastructure administration, License and WSUS management, Antivirus infrastructure management, Active Directory infrastructure management, Backup management, Security audits);
- In the Communications Services' area, CIS is responsible for maintaining IPT's data and voice communications infrastructure and associated services. As such, its main objective is to ensure the operability, availability, adequacy and security of the communications resources and services that it makes available to the entire IPT academic community. (Data network management, bandwidth management and service prioritization, Management of firewalls, wireless network management (eduroam), infrastructure management and maintenance of VoIP service and wired and wireless network);
- In the Information Systems' area CIS is responsible for ensuring the maintenance of IPT Information Systems, Administration of databases, Backup copies of server infrastructure under the responsibility of CIS-IPT, Production of information for the preparation of statistics, ensuring mechanisms/procedures for the quality of data available in the IS, Management of institutional email addresses, Preparation/maintenance of pages, websites and portals;
- In the Technical Support and User Support Services' area CIS is responsible for supporting users who use institutional information systems and resources (software and hardware), (Management of computer rooms, HelpDesk and technical support for the academic community, Management of the printing service);
- In the Application Development's area, it is responsible for designing, planning and coordinating the development of applications, in direct support to the Presidency or in response to transversal needs identified in the IPT structure, the implementation of which is the responsibility of the CIS.
