Objectives
A. Promote an increase in visual culture that allows students to identify and distinguish different creative languages, promoting respect for difference and the 'other';

B. Stimulate a deeper knowledge of the History of Art, realizing the importance of the Modernist Process and our relationship with Contemporary Art, contributing to developing students' critical sense and social awareness;

C. Understand relationships between History and Art Theory in contemporary times and know how to apply them to the particular context of photography, understanding the use of images over time as a vehicle of power, spirituality, memory, to understand how their codes accumulate and subsist.

Program
1. The Modern Age:
- The ‘subjectification’ of art;
- The artist as creator;
- The world of machines and the industrial image;

2. Realism;

3. Impressionism and Post-Impressionism;

4. The Modernist Process: the Avant-gardes and the 'Breaks':
- The emergence of the museum;
- The appearance of the exhibition;
- The ‘Isms’ and the ‘Zero Degree’ of art;
- Abstractionism and the other ‘Isms’...;
- The end of Art History;

5. Contemporary Art:
- Post-Modernism;
- The ‘White Cube’ as a paradigm of the exhibition space;
- Post-Production;
- Relationships between art and everyday life;
- Hybridity, Actions, Happenings, and performance;
- The body as subject, medium, and place for the production of art.

Evaluation Methodology
The course assessment is based on attendance and constructive participation in classes (which account for 15% of the final grade) and the completion of a theoretical paper critically analyzing the content covered in the course, previously agreed upon and approved by the professor. The theoretical paper (worth 60% of the final course grade) is a critical commentary involving in-depth theoretical research on one of the studied topics, previously agreed upon with the professor. The oral presentation of the paper (worth 25% of the final course grade) takes place in class.

Students who achieve a weighted average of 10 points or higher on these three items will be exempt from the exam.

Assessment during the exam period is carried out through the submission of the aforementioned work (worth 60% of the final grade), relating to content taught in the course unit, also with the prior agreement of the topic to be developed by the teacher, the oral presentation of the work carried out in class (worth 25% of the final grade) and participation in classes (worth 15% of the final grade).
