Prerequisites

Objectives
Students will:
1) Develop a global vision of cultural, social, and tourism phenomena, from a perspective of the evolution of tourism activity processes;
2) Acquire the skills necessary to interpret cultures (material culture and cultural heritage) and their relationships with tourism, from a perspective of developing tourism products;
3) Foster the ability to reflect on the field of tourism anthropology regarding the social, cultural, environmental, and economic impacts resulting from tourism activity and mobilization.

Program
Course Introduction;
1. Presentation of theoretical and practical content. Methodologies. Main bibliographical references.
1. Concepts: anthropology, cultural anthropology, and anthropology of tourism;
1.1. Brainstorming. Discussion of concepts within the anthropology of tourism;
2. Anthropological perspectives on the sociocultural dimension of tourism;
2.1. Dialectical relationship: cultural contexts and tourism contexts;
3. Anthropological interpretation from the perspective of integrating cultural content into "tourism consumption";
3.1. Cultural and tourism motivations, practices, and experiences. Case studies;
3.2. The role of emotional reactions/experiences to stimuli (e.g., habitual environment and environment of cultural/tourism destinations);
4. Anthropological essay. Comments on case studies. Discussion.
4.1. Public presentation (PBL format/practical application).

Evaluation Methodology
The assessment method will include:
a) theoretical component: written exam (50%);
b) practical component: practical assignment (50%).
Students must obtain:
1) a grade of 8 or higher on the written exam; 2) submit the practical assignment on the date scheduled by the teacher. The grade for the practical assignment must be at least 8 points. An oral presentation of the practical assignment is mandatory. If this does not occur, the final grade for the practical assignment will be 40%.
The assessment methodology and final grade for the student evaluation remain the same for all assessment periods (written exam and practical assignment).
