Prerequisites
Not applicable

Objectives
The students will acquire knowledge about mathematical models, calculation techniques, and methods:
-analysis of real situations, its interpretation, and simplification
- design and mathematical translation of real models
- basic programming concepts in Matlab
- application of numerical methods to the resolution of various theoretical and practical problems, with a view to their generalization to practical cases
- the creation of Matlab routines to solve several problems transversal to all the subjects taught
- Critical analysis of the results, interpretation, and evaluation through simulation based on several case studies.

Program
1. Mathematical Modelation Principles
2. Introduction to Matlab Programming
3. Numerical Methods Topics
3.1. Matrix algebra and linear equations systems
3.2. Non-linear equations
3.3. Polynomial interpolation
3.4. Numerical integration
3.5. Numerical methods for ordinary differential equations
3.6. Differential equations of partial derivatives
4. Simulation: Case studies

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous and Exam Assessments:
- mandatory group projects (30%)
- individual works (7=%)
oral defense in both cases (mandatory)
Exams only: mandatory group and individual work's , plus additional work done in one day (70%)
all subject to oral defense (mandatory). In all evaluation periods, the absence in the oral defense will result in a grade of 9 (nine) values.
(minimum approval grade 10/20)
