Objectives
A. Understand and apply investigative principles in journalism;
B. Develop critical and analytical skills regarding information sources;
C. Practice researching information of public interest;
D. Discuss ethical issues in journalism.
Program
1. Investigative Journalism: Cases that have gone down in history, contemporary international consortia, and 'slow journalism';
2. Public interest: The relevance of information and the surveillance function;
3. Sources of information: Diversity, credibility, and verification;
4. Ethical issues: Identification, image/sound recording, information leaks, and counter-offers;
5. Practical issues: Choosing the topic, the angle of approach, contextualization, narrative, and conclusion.
Evaluation Methodology
All assessment periods:
- Written exam (50%)
- Report (50%)
The assessment applies to Working Students.
The student obtains approval for the course unit, in accordance with the provisions of Points 11 and 12 of Article 11 of the IPT Academic Regulations.
In situations of copying or plagiarism in assessment tests/assignments, Article 21 of the Academic Regulations of the IPT Schools applies.
