Objectives
On completion of this unit students should have developed a good degree of autonomy in conservation and restoration and be able to diagnose, examine, identify and record movable and immovable assets. Make proposals for intervention and prepare conservation and restoration reports.
Program
1. Definition of each specialty, specific terminology, and presentation of the cultural assets to be studied and treated;
2. Laboratory operating rules and occupational health and safety standards in the laboratory;
3. Definition of the objective and development of the specific conservation and/or restoration treatment methodology for the work(s) to be treated;
4. Analysis, reflection, and substantiated reasoning for the execution of conservation and/or restoration operations
(procedures, materials, and products);
5. Preparation of a report on the study and conservation and restoration intervention of cultural assets (substantiated, rigorous, clear, and objective).
Evaluation Methodology
Assessment comprises two elements:
1.Attendance and performance in class (20%)
2. written assignment about a C&R intervention on an heritage item presented and assessed by an academic panel (20%).
3. Laboratory work and final report (60%) to be submitted in any period of assessment.
Students must obtain a minimum grade of 10 in each assignment in order to pass the course.
