Objectives
Students should be able to recognize historical and archaeological heritage, especially national heritage, and understand the importance of safeguarding it, as well as apply some of the data collection and management techniques in archaeology and how to convert this data for tourism or dissemination purposes. With these objectives in mind, they should be able to place historical and archaeological heritage within heritage in general, recognizing the territory as a stage for human action.
Program
1. Definition of archaeology and history.
A) What is archaeology?
B) Object of archaeological study.
C) History as a science and its context in the timeline of the human species.
2. Development of heritage education and archaeological management strategies to enhance heritage:
A) Communication and digital management of historical-archaeological heritage and its relationship with the territory and human behavior.
B) Recognition and transfer of heritage heritage in the context of tourism.
3. Techniques for recognizing heritage evidence: Materials and structures from prehistory to the Roman period.
4. In the timeline. Portuguese chrono-cultural framework.
From prehistory to the modern period - main heritage records.
5. Portuguese archaeological heritage.
Terrestrial and underwater archaeological sites and examples of tourist exploitation.
6.Heritage and Landscape: Understanding the multifaceted heritage and tourist interaction
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment will include a piece of work (portfolio - compulsory coursework carried out by the student) on historical and archaeological heritage (60%), class participation worth 40% of which 10% for participation in the classroom and discussion work or problem-solving and 30% for practical collaboration in the development of activities for the Days.
For the Exam or subsequent assessment components, a practical assignment will be considered to recognise a historical-archaeological site, its territorial surroundings and cultural context including treatment for the purposes of dissemination or tourism - 100%.

Teaching Method
Oral presentation of case studies and theoretical content on the different periods, discussion of tourism application strategies, with group and individual work on the development of tourism educational content and practices.
