The reference electrode. Operation of the combined electrode. Temperature effect on the pH measurement. Calibration of the pH meter.
5 - Oxidation-reduction: Writing and balance of redox reactions. Standard electrode otentials. Spontaneity of redox reactions. Electrochemical cells.
6 - Organic Chemistry: Alkanes and Cycloalkanes. Nomenclature of saturated hydrocarbons. Nomenclature of cycloalkanes. Functional groups: Alcohols and ethers; Aldehydes and ketones; Carboxylic acids; Esters; The amines; Amides; polymers.
7-Chemistry of paper, inks and toners: main aspects relevant to their behavior and use.
Practical component:
1-Measurement of volumes and masses of liquids.
2-Preparation and dilution of solutions.
3-Standardization of solutions.
4-Determination of the pH of the paper.
5-Study of the revelation variables.
Evaluation Methodology
The theoretical assessment (TA), whether by attendance or exam, is conducted through a written test, with consultation of the Periodic Table and the Ion Table, and with a minimum grade of 7 points (out of 20 points) to pass the course.
The practical assessment (PA) is carried out during continuous assessment through the completion of all practical laboratory work and their respective reports, requiring a minimum grade of 10 points (out of 20 points) in each assignment. Any student whose name appears on a report submitted without having performed the corresponding experimental work will not be considered for PA purposes.
The final grade (FG) is obtained by applying the following formula:
FG = (0.6 x TA) + (0.4 x PA)
The minimum grade for passing the course is 10 points in FG.
Students who fail to complete all experimental work carried out in the current academic year in this course, as well as the respective written reports, will be excluded from the examination assessment, even though the completion of these tasks is considered essential. Students who do not meet the minimum passing grade of 10 points in the practical assessment (PA), which is only carried out during continuous assessment, will also be excluded from the examination.
