Objectives
A. Identify and understand the conceptual and methodological issues underlying film programming and curation and its historical evolution;
B. Distinguish between programming contexts (festivals, museums, cinematheques, etc.);
C. Understand the relationship between film curation and other arts.
D. Organize a workshop and a documentary film session, around contemporary themes linked to documentary.
Program
1. Cinema and reception: sociocultural circuit; economic circuit; audience formation.
2. Film programming: regular exhibition and cinematographic events: commercial circuit, alternative circuit, festivals and cycles/shows.
3. Paths of a film: premiere, distribution circuits and affirmation circuits.
4. Definition of the orientation of a schedule: criteria and schedule lines.
5. Texts and documentation: collection and selection of documentary elements; writing about/from films, criticism and contextual presentation; catalogs and editing.
6. Programming logistics: planning and scheduling; copy and media management; exhibition legal issues and copyright; marketing and promotion.
Evaluation Methodology
1. Continuous assessment
1.1 Attendance and regular intervention on the content discussed in classes (10%).
1.2 Production of 2 theoretical-practical exercises on Programming and Curating in Documentary Cinema (each exercise is worth 45%; total of the 2 exercises is worth 90%).
2. Assessment by exam
2.1 Normal Season, Appeal Season and Special Season: the same 2 theoretical-practical exercises on Programming and Curation in Documentary Cinema will be requested as in the context of continuous assessment (each exercise is worth 50%; total of the 2 exercises is worth 100%).
The evaluation is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 11 of the Academic Regulations of IPT Schools. Students who obtain a grade equal to or greater than 10 are exempt from the Exam.
