Prerequisites
Screenplay I (not required, but preferred).
Reading skills in English and Spanish (preferred).

Objectives
A. Demonstrate writing skills in film format;
(AA) Know writing models and formal presentation of different types of scripts for documentary;
(AB) Be able to design and write a project;
B. Be able to research in the field of documentary filmmaking;
(BA) Understand the research processes for documentary film as distinct from the processes and aims of scientific
research, journalism, etc.
(BB) Be able to investigate independently of their connection to the subject;
(BC) Distinguish empirical research from theoretical research, its scope, its strategies and its suitability for
documentary projects;
C. Develop writing practice in creative and non-creative projects;
(CA) To know the history, the fundamentals and the processes of non-creative writing, namely in what is formalized
in the use of collage language in documentary;
(CB) To know the writing processes of the creative documentary as well as its boundaries with the institutional film
and the film-order;
D. Know and understand the pieces that are part of a pre-production dossier within the documentary;

1. The Collage in Documentary Cinema
a. Brief historical contextualization;
b. Image, collage and writing;
c. Collage and Archive;
d. Collage testing;
2. Creative documentary
a. Research;
b. Writing of images and sounds in film.
3. The dossier of a project
a. Research;
b. Narrative structure;
c. Writing of images;
d. Writing of sound;
e. The cinematic device;
f. The film in its context.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous Assessment:
A. Class participation, class work + teoretical test(30%)
B. Treatment [20%]
C. Documentary Script [50%]

NOTE: Continuous Assessment requires that students attend, at least, 80% of the total number of classes.

Evaluation by Exame Normal / Recurso/ E. Especial:
A.Theoretical reflection [40%]
B.Treatment + Documentary script [60%]

Teaching Method
This course follows a synchronous b-learning methodology, complemented by the development of tasks in the period between meetings. The synchronous component focuses on the participatory component and the asynchronous component on the expository.
