Objectives
Students should be able to:
A - Apply a set of oral and written skills in a variety of communicative situations in the field of Social Communication, namely Journalism, Business Communication and Audiovisual.
B - Communicate fluently and reproduce real-life situations in the field of Social Communication.
C - Interpret and produce texts of various types using the English language correctly according to structural and grammatical rules.
D - Recognise and apply specific online and offline media vocabulary appropriately.
Program
1 - The Future of the Media: analysing texts in various media.
2 - The Digital Age: Changes; Advantages/Disadvantages; Consequences.
3 - Journalistic genres: News; Interview; Report; Opinion article.
4 - Personalities and Events: news coverage in the different media; analysis of films and documentaries.
5 - Marketing and Advertising: from product/brand conception to the end consumer.
6 - Audiovisual media as transmitters of information/messages.
7 - Specific vocabulary.
8 - Grammatical items.
Evaluation Methodology
*Continuous Assessment
- 1 written test - 50% (minimum mark 8)
- Practical assigments carried out in class, class participation (written and oral components), attendance and commitment - 20%.
- 1 written research assignment with oral presentation - 30%.
Students who do not present one of the assessment points described above will be admitted to an exam.
For working students, the assessment consists of:
- 1 written test - 70% (minimum mark 8)
- A written research assignment with an oral presentation (compulsory) - 30%.
* Assessment by Exam
- Written test - 70% (minimum mark 8)
- Written and oral research assignment (compulsory) - 30% (submission and oral presentation on the day of the exam)
The final mark for the course is the weighted average of the marks obtained in the components defined above.
The student obtains approval for the course, in accordance with the provisions of Points 11 and 12 of Article 11 of the IPT Academic Regulations.
