Objectives
By completing the unit, students should be able to understand notions of computer science and computer architecture; explore computer networks and know how to use the Internet as a means of accessing, transmitting and disseminating information; develop skills in exploring tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, presentations and communication and understand the importance of information security and privacy.
Students are also expected to acquire research competences, skills and methods; develop the ability to conceive, design, adapt and carry out meaningful research while respecting the demands imposed by academic quality and integrity standards; and be able to critically analyse, evaluate and synthesise new and complex ideas.

Program
1) Introduction to Computer Science and Notions of Computer Architecture
2) Word Processing: Microsoft Word.
3) Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel.
4) Presentations: Microsoft Powerpoint.
5) Networks and Internet
6) Security and Privacy.

Evaluation Methodology
Open-book test 1 - Points 1 to 3 of the course syllabus (30%), Open-book test 2 - Points 4 to 6 of the course syllabus (30%) and practical work with public discussion (40%) and in class, with minimum pass mark of 7/20 in each assessment component. Open-book test in exam.
