Objectives
The main objectives of the course are project planning and management (O1); the formalization of Linear Programming problems (O2); the introduction to classic and basic optimization problems, and the adoption of some strategies for solving these problems (O3); the basic analysis of the economic and financial viability of investment projects (O4).
Students may develop skills that enable them to apply a systemic approach to the analysis of basic problems, namely understanding their formulation, recognizing the appropriate methodologies for solving and applying them.
The course introduces students to basic concepts, models and techniques that allow efficient planning and management of resources and activities, maximizing profits and/or minimizing costs.
Program
1. Project management and planning.
1.1 Defining the scope of the project.
1.2 Communication and resources.
1.3 Budget.
1.4 Scheduling and control.
1.5 A brief approach to the main agile project management methods.
2. Linear programming.
2.1 Optimization problems.
2.2 Decision variables.
2.3 Formulation and basic properties of the problem.
2.4 Methods for solving Linear Programming problems.
3. Evaluation of investment projects.
3.1 Fundamental concepts.
3.2 Basic studies for preparing investment projects.
3.3 Project cash flow analysis.
3.4 Deciding to invest in the face of risk.
Evaluation Methodology
Completion of an assignment (T), in the form of worksheets, and a written test (PE) in any of the assessment periods. The final classification (CF) is obtained by the expression CF=0.40*T+0.60*PE. The minimum mark for the written test is 6 (out of a possible 20). The minimum final mark for passing the course is 10 (out of a possible 20).
