Prerequisites

Objectives
Understanding Photography as a complex process, capable of producing visual records
reliable information about a given reality.
Understand the photographic process and the way in which Photography constructs a certain meaning, based on a represented reality.
Acquire operational skills in the field of the photographic process and its various components, operational and conceptual, in order to understand and master the ability of photography to constitute a document or journalistic fact.

Program
1 - Photography as a complex process, and its areas of interest: the Object, the
Chamber and Registry;
2 - Light and the Object: basic lighting techniques in photography;
3 - Image formation: point of view, framing, exposure control, focus and sharpness;
4 - The geometry of the image: point of view and focal length;
5 - The photographic image: technical or artisanal image?
6 – The documentary value of Photography and processes of meaning;
7 - Photography and communication;
8 - Photography and narrative.

Evaluation Methodology
The characteristics of this discipline require active participation from the student. It will be appropriate for learning assessment to be carried out on an ongoing basis. Therefore, for each of the proposed Experimental Projects, developed in class, an individual technical report will be requested. Practical work will be proposed to be solved in small groups. The final grade will result from the weighted average obtained between the individual assessment, weighing 60%, and the group work assessment, weighing 40%. The Examination tests must include a written test, with a weight of 60%, and the presentation of individual reports relating to the monitoring of Experimental Projects developed in practical classes, with a weight of 40%.
The student obtains approval for the UC, in accordance with the provisions of Points 11 and 12, of Article 11, of the IPT Academic Regulations.
The evaluation process described also applies to Student Workers and Erasmus students.

Teaching Method
A set of coherent experimental projects will be developed which, properly sequenced and related, will allow, in their development in practical classes, to learn by doing.
