Prerequisites
Intermediate knowledge of the English language.
Objectives
By the end of the semester, students should be able to:
- Use technical vocabulary in the fields of Tourism Principles, Hotel Management, Business English, as well as Food and Beverages;
- Produce sentences of intermediate complexity;
- retrieve as much information as possible from a monolingual Advanced Learner's Dictionary; and
- Write small professional texts, such as: emails, formal letter

Program
- Tourism (Main tourism concepts and definitions: tourist, visitor, excursionist, travel, journey, voyage, tour, trip, amongst others);
- Tourism Destinations (Types of tourism, the weather, travelling)
- Business English (types of lodging, contacts with clients, suppliers, colleagues and superior staff, food and beverages, numbers, prices, discounts, directions, advising places to visit, correspondence formal - letters and emails)
- Dictionary work;
- Intermediate grammar structures.
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous Assessment guidelines:
Speaking and Reading: 25%
Oral presentation: 25%
Final evaluation written tests: 50%
Students must obtain a minimum of 8 points in each of the evaluation items for average purposes. An average of 9,5 is required to skip the final exam.
Exam for those who failed or didn't attend the test. The exam is made up of a written component (50%) and of an oral component (50%). Those who fail to achieve 8,5 points in the written component will not be deemed eligible for taking the oral component.

Teaching Method
