Objectives
Provide students with the basic concepts and mathematical tools necessary to determine the tensions and deformations at any point of the bars that make up the isostatic or hyperstatic crosslinked structures, verify the security and scale out, arising from axial stress and bending.
Program
Basic concepts of the Resistance of Materials. Hooke's Law; small deformations hypothesis ; Principle of the overlapping effects; S.Venant principle; flat sections hypothesis; Linear part. General safety criteria: characteristic values of the actions and the resistance of the materials. Ultimate limit states of resistance and service limit states . Geometry of masses; Concept of continuous medium;
Properties of sections; Geometric center,of mass and gravity; Static, inertial, polar moments of inertia, principal moments of inertia; Rotating radii and inertia products. Simple traction and compression; Fundamental concepts; Tensile tests; Voltage-extension diagram; Materials properties; Young's modulus; Coefficient of Poisson; Calculation diagrams; Sizing to normal effort; Deformation work. Flexion; Concepts of flat and deflected bending; Flat bending: normal stresses in pure bending and simple bending. Security check; Beams with heterogeneous section (mixed beams). Notion of homogenization coefficient. Diagrams of extensions and tensions in cross section. Deformation in flexion; Diverted bending: normal bending stresses; Calculation of normal voltages in a generic section; Equation of the neutral axis; Security check.
Evaluation Methodology
Assessment is based on the mark obtained on the two components: a written test and a paper.
The final grade is the weighted average of the semester assignment (67%) and a written test (33%), this methodology is applicable to all valuation periods.
A minimum mark of 9.5 out of 20 in any of the components is required.
