Objectives
At the end of the course unit the student will be able to understand the concepts of culture, tourism, cultural tourism, as well as understand the need to understand the aspects related to authenticity, identity and material and immaterial heritage. In addition to these aspects will be able to understand the relationship between museums and cultural tourism, and explain the main features of cultural tourism in Portugal and the Lusophone countries. 1. Developing concepts: tourism, culture and cultural tourism;
2. Research methods in Cultural Tourism;
3. Heritage, identity, authenticity and tourism;
4. Museums and cultural tourism;
5. Governance of cultural tourism: policies and networks of actors;
6. Cultural tourism in Portugal;
7. Case Study: Tourism in Manor Houses.
Evaluation Methodology
1 - Continuous assessment test - 40% (minimum grade of 8 points)
2 - Work 1 (group): to be defined (40%)
3 - Work 2 (individual): Classroom Activities - 20%
