Objectives
It is intended to provide students with complementary knowledge in the area of Statistics and Optimization. In particular, linear regression, analysis of time series and linear programming that allow them to approach, together with the competences of the other curricular units, research in the different scientific areas of the course.
Program
Chapter I - Descriptive statistics
i) Location and dispersion measures
ii) Measures of order and form
Chapter II - Probability distributions
i) Discrete distributions: binomial and Poisson
ii) Continuous distributions: exponential and normal
Chapter III - Linear regression
i) Correlation and independence
ii) Simple linear regression
iii) Multiple linear regression
iv) t and F test
Chapter IV - Time series
i) Components of a time series
ii) Auto-regressive models
Chapter V - Linear programming
i) Formulation of Linear and Integer Programs
ii) Simplex Method for Linear Programming
iii) Transportation and Affection Problems
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment consists of practical work (70%) and an assessment test (30%).
If the student was admitted to the exam or was dismissed, but wants to improve his / her classification, he / she can take the exam of the normal season - a written test (classified from 0 to 20 points) on all the taught material.
If the student failed the exam of the normal season, he/she can take the exam of the appeal season - test with the same rules of the normal season.

Teaching Method
In the Theoretical-Practical sessions, the programmed contents are taught, using support material, as well as exercises to apply the acquired concepts, using specific software when possible.
Software used in class
Excel spreadsheet and IBM SPSS statistical package
