Prerequisites

Objectives
Understand the basic principles and concepts of physics and the role of physics in science and engineering. Develop skills to analyse and solve problems in the field of mechanics with several idealised bodies.
Program
1. General Concepts: Measures and units; International Unit System; Measurements and errors.
2. Kinematics.
3. Dynamics.
4. Work and energy.
5. Rigid body, statics and elasticity.
6. Hydrostatics.
7. Vibratory and undulatory motion.
Evaluation Methodology
The module is assessed, either in continuous assessment or exam periods, by two components:
(i) a closed-book written test component of a theoretical and practical nature. A minimum mark of 8/20 is required to pass (weighing 70% of total mark) and ii) a practical component worth 20/20 (weighing 30% of the total mark).
