- Carla Alexandra de Castro Carvalho e Silva (1)(2)

(1) Docente Responsável
(2) Docente que lecciona

Prerequisites
Not applicable

Objectives
Acquisition of methods and processes for solving problems. Acquisition of concepts of mechanical equilibrium; physical properties of materials. Development of competences that enable the student to understand the electromagnetic spectrum. Acquisition of basic concepts of photometry.

Program
1-Quantity Measurement. Unit System. Scalars and Vectors.
2-Mechanics - basic concepts of kinematics, interactions and forces.
3-Mechanical properties of materials.
4-Light and colour.
5-Photometry.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment: completion of two written tests, one during the semester worth 13 grade points (out of 20) and the second test at the end of the semester worth 7 grade points (out of 20). The final mark is the sum of the marks obtained in the two exams. The student will have a pass if he/she obtains a final mark of 10 or more, and will not be required to take an exam. Students who obtain a mark higher than 17 will have to take an oral test.
Exam-based assessment: if the student is elligile to take the exam or is exempted but wishes to improve his/her mark, he can take the exam in the regular assessment period - a written summative test graded from 0 to 20. A minimm mark of 10/20 is required to pass. Students who obtain a mark higher than 17/20 will have to sit an oral exam.

Teaching Method
Theoretical lectures focused on physics concepts. Theoretical-practical classes aimed at solving problems under the instructor´s supervision and, whenever possible, complemented with experimental practice in the Physics laboratory.
