Objectives
The students should understand the context in which the various art movements have emerged and be able to identify and describe the works of art and respective artists.

Program
1-The Late Middle Ages

3- Romanesque Art
3.1 Diffusion of Romanesque art in Portugal
3.2 - Religious architecture . The Cistercian Romanesque

3.4 - Romanesque Sculpture. Ornamental representation. Devotional sculpture and tombs
3.5 - Painting and Illumination
4 - The introduction of the first Gothic forms
4.1 The Gothic as a "new work" . The first Portuguese Gothic
4.2 -The monastic reform and the XIV century in Portugal
II- The fifteenth century?s evolution.
1-Architectural evolution: The Monastery of ?Batalha?
2 - Sculpture and iconography
3 - The Church as aTreasury ? decorative arts

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment: two written works, one on Portuguese Romanesque Art and the other on Gothic Art in Portugal, depending on the approval of a final average of 10 points. However, 7,5 is the minimum mark required in one of the assignments; Whoever has a mark lower than 7,5 in one assignment will be admitted to the exam.
Final Examination: written test about all the subjects included in the program. Approval with a minimum score of 10 values.

Teaching Method
Theoretical lectures focused on artwork analysis.
Theoretical/practical lectures with discussion on the contents covered in the lectures, through the analysis of works of art and text comments.
