Objectives
The students should develop skills that will allow them to identify the different types of solid waste and its physical and chemical composition as well as understand factors involved in solid waste management such as the inventory, the collection, the deposition and the treatment.

Program
1-Types of waste: household and commercial, hazardous, special, public institutions, construction and demolition, municipal services, industrial solid and agriculture.
2-Classification of solid waste: municipal solid waste, industrial solid and hospital solid.
3-Sampling and physicochemical and biological characterization of solid waste: procedures for the sampling of physical, chemical and biological wastes, properties of municipal solid waste, physical, chemical and biological properties of solid waste.
4 Proceedings of collection, transport and disposal of solid waste: solid waste collection and transfer stations.
5-Process solid waste treatment: physicochemical processes, thermal processes, biological processes and landfills.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous evaluation consists of a practical and a theoretical component and both require a minimum total score of 10 points. The final grade is made with the sum of the two components valuing the practice in 20% and the theoretical 80%.

Teaching Method
In the lectures the students will learn about the various types of treatments for solid wastes and in the practical classes as well as in the laboratory ones a connection will be made between theory and real situations.
