Objectives
Give to the students the basic knowledge to enable them to develop a set of cultural tourism products based on knowledge and enhancement of archaeological and palaeontological heritage.
Program
What is archaeology and how it contributes to create cultural heritage.
Archaeology and territory: principles, epistemological status and relationship with the culture.
Archaeology, territory and archaeological tourism: work methodologies, cognitive and case studies.
Paleontological heritage and its tourist exploitation: "the paleotourism"
Cultural Heritage: definition, specificities, appreciation and preservation.
The investigation and preservation of archaeological heritage in Portugal: 16TH century to our days.
The cultural heritage and natural heritage. The geo-monuments and the pioneering spirit of Portugal in his defence, recovery and preservation.
The role of the State in the preservation of the archaeological heritage. The institutions which manage this heritage. The legislation. The mobile archaeological heritage conservation versus preservation of paleontological mobile heritage
Evaluation Methodology
Assessment includes a written assignment to be presented in the last course session.
