Objectives
To familiarise students with the various construction processes used in civil engineering works, including techniques, function of building components, execution sequences and construction equipments. Detailed and illustrated description of the processes, including advantages and disadvantages of its usage, will enable students to master process control and make informed decisions as future professionals.
Program
1-Preparatory work for construction. 2-Foundations (concrete slabs, reinforced concrete pile foundations, foundation walls). 3- Earth-Retaining structures. 4-Formwork. 5-Building structures (concrete, wood and steel). 6- Exterior walls using conventional methods (in Portugal) . 7-Roof structures. 8-Construction details. 9-Special construction processes 10-Prefabrication.
Evaluation Methodology
Criteria: Ability to distinguish the various enforcement processes and their advantages; Sequence of execution of each process; Recognition of appropriate equipment.
The evaluation is based on the classification obtained in written test (50%) and in research works (50%). The course unit will be taught in two parts (part 1 and part 2) by two different teachers. In part 1 a work (Pm) will be elaborated with 25% weighting; in Part 2, 4 papers with equal weight (Pa) will be developed, accounting for 25% of the evaluation. The final classification (CF) is obtained by the following expression CF = 0.5T + 0.25Pm + 0.25Pa, where T represents the classification obtained in the written test
