Objectives
A general overview of contemporary history through a systematic approach to the major periods and cycles providing a solid basis for in-depth study. An exploration of documentary sources with an approach to relevant aspects of cultural heritage.

INTRODUCTION. THE PROTOCONSTITUTIONAL PORTUGAL (1789-1820). The Revolutionary Threat(1789-1807). The Royal Court in Brazil (1807 - 1821)
CONTEMPORARY PORTUGAL. From the Liberal Revolution to the Adhesion to the European Community (1820-1985)
I. The Constitutional Monarchy (1820 - 1910)
II. The First Republic (1910- 1926)
III. The "Estado Novo" period (1926 - 1974)
IV. The Third Republic (1974-2...)
Reference to the 25 April, decolonization and eurpean integration

Evaluation Methodology
Two mid-term tests with minimum pass mark of 10/20.
Final examination for those failing continuous assessment (minimum pass mark:10/20)
1 essay which may improve final score by 1 point.
