Objectives
The main objective is to prepare students to solve theoretical and practical problems they face in identifying cultural objects and works
of art. At the end they should be able to correctly identify cultural objects and works of art and master the main problems and to identify
the Lusíada furniture.

Part 1 - I - Introduction - a) - Basic concepts; b) - Definitions (Identification and cultural objects); c) - Sources - Immediate and Mediate (direct and indirect); II - Identification - a) - Type; b) - Style; c) - Technical; d) - Materials; e) - Quality; f) - Use; g) - Period; III - Auxiliary Sciences - 1 - Historical Sciences (History, Archaeology, Philology, Paleography, Epigraphy, Diplomatic, Heraldry, Genealogy, Sigillography; Numismatics, Philately and Medals; Ex-Libris; Chronology; Onomastics, Anthroponymy and Toponymy; Statistics; etc.); 2 - "Science" relating more specifically to the History of Art (Architecture, Sculpture, Painting, Decorative Arts - engraving, furniture, ceramics, glassware, jewellery, silverware, metalwork, ironwork, tapestry, etc.); 3 - Non-Historical Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Botany, Mineralogy, etc.); 4 - Conclusion; IV - Heuristics - a) - Museums; b) - Libraries and public archives; c) - Private Collections; d) - Exhibitions; e) - Auctions, Fairs and Antique shops; V - Bibliography - a) - books of art and of auxiliary sciences; b) - repertoires; c) - lexicons, dictionaries and encyclopedias; d) - monographs;
PART 2 - Lusiada Furniture - I - Introduction - a) - Sources; b) - Portuguese Expansion; c) - Meeting of cultures and production of cultural objects (meetings of furniture and Lusiada furniture production); II - Lusiada Furniture in General - a) - Type; b) - Style; c) - Technical; d) - Materials; e) - Quality; f) - Use; g) - Period; III - Lusiada Furniture in particular - a) - Indo-Portuguese branch; b) - Azores branch; c) - African East Coast branch; d) - Mughal influence branch; e) - Cingalo-Portuguese branch; f) - Asian Southeastern branch; g) – Sino-Portuguese branch; h) – Namban branch; i) - Others.

Evaluation Methodology
The evaluation is done through two frequencies or final exam. Approved with 19 values in the sum of the two frequencies and can’t take less of 7 in one of them. In the final exam must have 10. If not reached such valuations he must do an oral exam.

Teaching Method
The contents are presented with projection of images in order to allow a view of the aspects of identification, accompanied by texts written by the teacher. In a single class and a visit to a museum will be analyzed and identifyed Lusíada furniture.
