Objectives
On completion of this unit, students should be provided with basic knowledge of electronics and microprocessors.
Program
1-Basics of Numbering; 2-Analogue and digital circuits. 3-Boolean algebra and logic circuits
4-Computer architecture. CPU, Bus controllers; 5-Management of Interrupts and Traps, Multitasking and multiprocessing. 6-Structure of the I/O system. Synchronous and asynchronous device drivers , DMA; 7-Memory, Registers, Cache Memory, RAM, Hard disk; 8-Operating systems
Evaluation Methodology
- Theoretical assessment - 50%, with a minimum mark of 8/20.
- Practical assessment - 30%, with a minimum mark of 10/20. Average grade of 3 lab assignments, each with a minimum grade of 8/20.
- Continuous assessment, 20% or equivalent
