Lecturer
(1) Docente Responsável
(2) Docente que lecciona
Prerequisites
Algebra, trigonometry, elementary analysis and vector calculus.
Objectives
Students should become familiar with the fundamental law of dynamics (Newton's 2nd law) and be able to think rationally, applying it to concrete physical situations, obtaining, analyzing and understanding the various results and their validity limits.
Program
1 - Units, dimensions, dimensional analysis, trigonometry, elementary algebra and vector algebra (taught simultaneously with other matters).
2 - Relativity of motion, speed, rapidity, kinetic energy, linear momentum, acceleration, force, power and force work. Law of universal attraction. Types of forces. Principle of superposition. Newton's Laws.
3 - Aplication of Newton's 2nd Law.
Evaluation Methodology
Eight weekly online development tests (in class). Three group works. Students also have a weekly homework exercise with teacher's feedback for improvement.

Teaching Method
Students are encouraged to study course material at home and participate in class discussions, group work and weekly computer simulation tests. This is done with the support of a formula sheet.
