Objectives
On completion of this unit students will have understood the fundamentals of stratigraphy and chrono-stratigraphy of the quaternary. They will be familiar with the vertebrate evolution and be able to discriminate between Pleistocene and Holocene fauna.
Program
Concepts of stratigraphy. Chrono-stratigraphy of the Quaternary. Climatic variations. The ice ages. Palaeoclimatology of the Plio/Pleistocene. The Quaternary faunas. Introduction to Palaeontology. Vertebrate Palaeontology. Fossil records. Taxonomy. Fossilization processes and tafonomy.
Evaluation Methodology
Thematic report (50%) and final interdisciplinary exam (50%)
