Objectives
The course Fundamentals of Medicine and Health Systems aims to:
1 - Give students the fundamentals of medicine and the provision of health care practiced today;
2 - Teach the different existing health systems sub-systems, their types, organizational models, ways of working and interaction.
Program
General concepts of health;
Introduction to Human Anatomy & Physiology;
Diagnosis and treatment;
Clinical Semiology;
Medical Guidelines;
Supplementary diagnostic;
Urgency episodes, inpatient, consultation and day hospital;
Public health;
Hospitals, health centers and regional institutions;
National health system, private sector and the health sub-systems;
Pharmacies;
Professional and patients organizations
Evaluation Methodology
The evaluation method consists of making a written test, with a weight of 60% of final grade, and an individual work, with a weight of 40% of final grade. The student will have approval for the course if he gets an average of the two assessment components greater than or equal to 9.5.

Teaching Method
The teaching method consists in oral presentation of the syllabus provided (lectures) and the presentation and discussion of topics related to them (theoretical and practical classes) and is also provided tutorial orientation sessions that allow the student to have of a personalized education. It shall be used too an e-learning platform, managed by the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, as a tool for disseminating information, answering questions, posting handouts, exercise sheets and other study materials.
