Prerequisites
Basic concepts of Statics, Dynamics and Strength of Materials.
Objectives
Students should understand the principles, theories and models for the analysis of structural systems subjected to static and dynamics loads. They should also understand modelling and analysis of internal forces and structural displacements and use simplified methods of structural analysis.
Program
Structural design. Preliminary design and safety check. Structures subject to vertical load. Structures subject to lateral load: bracing systems, wind and seismic design. Computer-aided analysis and design of structures.
Evaluation Methodology
One final written exam during regular assessment season, and practical coursework carried out on class.
