Objectives
Students should familiarise themselves with the great issues of environment and sustainable development in Portugal and in the world and understand the environmental policies at global and national level and learn concepts of environmental economics.
Program
1 - Introduction - Population and demography: dynamics of populations worldwide and in Portugal.
2 - Natural resources and sustainable use. Issues of natural resources and their use.
3 - The concept of sustainable development. Forms of environmental degradation.
4 - Environmental policies in the EU.
5 - Clean Technologies. Recyclable materials: the new industrial ecology.
Evaluation Methodology
Theoretical assessment - Written test. Theoretical-practical assessment - Literature review. Final mark is the average mark of two parts. A pass in the module requires a mark higher or equal to 10/20 on both parts.
