Prerequisites
Knowledge of chemistry, materials, microbiology and biochemistry.
Objectives
Understand the mechanisms underlying decay mechanisms of materials used in the works of art, the impact of environmental conditions and control methods. Be able to isolate and classify, by classic methods, microorganisms responsible for decay. Be familiar with molecular biology
techniques.
Program
Alteration of inorganic, organic and synthetic materials used in cultural heritage assets physical/chemical and biological actions: alteration and weathering mechanisms; living organisms involved in biodeterioration; microbial growth and control methods; Application of classic and molecular biology techniques in the identification of harmful biological agents.
Evaluation Methodology
Presentation of laboratory results in the format of a scientific paper. Presentation and discussion of a selected paper.
Minimum pass grade in each assessment component: 10/20.
