Objectives
An introduction to the theory and
practice of DBMS. The emphasis will be on theoretical considerations about modelling data and designing easy to use
and effective DB systems. The students will learn concepts such as Database, Data Structure, Data Modeling and SQL.
Program
1 - Objectives and functions of DBMS.
2 - Ancient data models. Relational model.
3 - Relationships. Data dictionary. Keys.Primary key, foreign key and indices. Integrity and rules.
4-Functional dependencies and normalization. First normal form
(1FN), second normal form (2FN), third normal form (3FN) and
Boyce-Codd normal form.
5-Entity-relationship method. Extended E-R.
6 - SQL.
Evaluation Methodology
Written Test. Laboratory coursework. Preparation and presentation of a Final Project.
